A Uganda People’s defense Forces (UPDF) deserter was on Tuesday arrested in Rukiga district for allegedly trying to grab land.
John Bosco Ndyamuba a resident of Nyakambu cell, reportedly deserted the army in 2017 after his return from Somalia on a peace keeping mission.
Agatha Niwampeire, a resident of Nyakambu cell, Rwenyangyre parish Kamwezi district says that on Monday last week, Ndyamuba attacked her, ordering her to vacate her two acre banana plantation or else be killed.
Niwampeire says she acquired the said land from her deceased father in-law in 2014 to help her take care of her disabled brother in-law Simon Nsasiibwe.
She adds that when she reported the matter to police, Ndyamuba attacked her with a machete and was saved by neighbors after she made an alarm.
Mable Karibaara,a crime preventer and a resident of the same village says that Ndyamuba has since his return been terrorizing his relatives.
The Rukiga district officer in charge of criminal investigations department Juliet Baguma acknowledged Ndyamuba’s arrest and said UPDF was handling the matter.
Watchdog Uganda contacted the UPDF second division public relations officer Maj. Charles Kaboona who said he was not aware of Ndyamuba’s arrest.
