The Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) [National theatre] will this year be adding culture to its usual tourism features lineup during the second edition of Art and Culture Festival.
Yes! Organizers believe that it’s time for Uganda to sell her unique cultural activities like dance, costumes, songs among other to both local and international market for tourism purposes.
Themed ‘Culture for Sustainable Tourism’, the festival shall be happening at National Theatre grounds from November 1 to 3rd and it will feature over seven cultural groups representing the various regions in Uganda.
According to Robert Musiitwa, the Public Relationship Officer of UNCC, the event will bring together art and culture professionals, lovers and stakeholders to celebrate the rich cultures in the Pearl of Africa.
“Our mission is to popularize Ugandan culture locally and globally, this festival is aimed at showcasing Ugandan rich cultural diversity thus creating opportunities for community development through cultural tourism,” he noted.
He added that at the festival, UNCC will also launch the Cultural Tourism Museum, which will consist authentic artifacts from all over Uganda as recommended and endorsed by the Cultural Institutions in different regions.
To make the festival day colorful, organizers have been on ground doing national tours to select the best talented cultural groups, and over seven groups were selected to represent the different cultural diversity in Uganda.
These will include Alur Kingdom Troup from Nebbi, Super Eagles from Agago District, Basoga Bakoberana from Kamuli, Batwa Cultural troupe, Tukole Namanyi Community Association Cultural troupe (TUNAC) and Mugahinga Cultural Troup among others.
The groups were carefully selected by the UNCC Management and artistes who included Suzan Kerunen, Dr Michael Muhumuza, Okeng George and Maureen Mutonyi, and they believe that their main goal of ‘Cultural Tourism’ will bring positive results.
Musiitwa also noted that they chose to do the regional tours to establish UNCC’s presence in the different regions, developed talents and also to promote local/regional tourism. He hopes that this second edition is well improved and will be bigger than the first edition.
Besides local cultural performances, the festival will also host Cultural food exhibitions, prominent pop artistes, symposia and guests from Turkey and Ghana.
UNCC Arts and Cultural Festival received a big turn up for their first edition that was held under the theme ‘Employment Creation for Women and Youth in Arts and Culture Industry’.
