Police in Kabale district is holding the Kitumba Sub County Youth Chairperson Chris Turyomurugyendo for allegedly sending death threat massages to Samuel Amanya a journalist working with an online news website Uganda Radio Network.
The detained Turyomurugyendo,32 is a resident of Rushambya cell in Bushuro parish Kitumba Sub County Kabale district.
According to Amanya, on 23rd May this year at around 1:14 pm, Turyomurugyendo using a mobile phone number 0782,227,581 which is registered in the name of Penelope Akampurira Lynnette called him threatening to end his life soon.
Amanya added that he was accused by Turyomurugyendo of having taken ‘unpleasing’ photos in Mwendo parish in Kitumba Sub County Kabale district, allegations he denies. It is however understood that it is in Mwendo where the home of the state minister of Finance for planning David Bahati is located.
Amanya reported the matter to Kabale police station under reference file number SD 55/23/5/2019 for police investigation.
On Friday,the Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate who confirmed the arrest said that after the matter was reported by Amanya to police, they started investigating and tracking the suspect until today morning when the suspect was finally arrested.
Maate says that police is continuing with the investigations after which the suspect shall be taken to court to answer the charges accordingly.
The case was registered under reference file number CRB 1428/2019.
When Turyomurugyendo was paraded before journalists for a comment about the matter, he said he was not yet ready to give his side.
