The Uganda Police have issued guidelines to help the general public against possible kidnaps.
Police’s caution follows a current spate of kidnaps and murders around the country.
Last month, Maria Nagirinya and her driver Kitayimbwa Ronald were kidnapped from her home in Lungujja community zone, Rubaga Municipality and their bodies were recovered in Nakitutuli village in Nama sub-county, Mukono district, along Mukono Kayunga road. The 28 year old was working as a project manager at Community Integrated Development Initiative (CIDI), a Muyenga based NGO.
And just this week on Thursday night, two people were murdered by shooting along Entebbe Express Highway.
Police identified the victims as Nteireho Ruhegyera Joshua, a 38 year old male adult, who was found lying dead, outside the car, towards the rear; with gunshots wounds. An AK47 gun was found lying along his side and Merina Tumukunde, a 37-year-old female adult, who died in a seating position, in the hind seat, and with a single bullet wound to the head.
In another almost similar incident, three family members were shot dead in the wee hours of Friday morning in Lyantonde district.
The deceased were identified as Justus Sendege, 27, his wife Evelyn Ekyampayire and a cousin Robert Mubiru, 40.
According to the Greater Masaka regional police spokesperson, Paul Kangave, the incident happened at around 2 am on Friday morning at Sendege’s home in Kakyaza trading centre, Kimuka sub-county.
“We visited the scene as police and recovered three cartridges of an AK47 rifle. We picked the bodies and took them to Lyantonde hospital. The motive of the assailants is yet to be established as we continue to investigate,” Kangave said.
