The Uganda Police Force has said the political violence meted out to a one Kasumba Baker will not be allowed in Uganda, describing it as ‘a bad political strategy to whoever is using it’.
Kasumba, 21, a resident of Avis Kavulu in Kawempe Division was on Wednesday intercepted by two unidentified men who hit him on the head and later nailed his hands for allegedly supporting National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Yoweri Museveni.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango, Kasumba left his work place at Jesco Ham Shopping Center, for home but he realized that he had spent some time without visiting his mother.
“He decided to go and check on her. He decided to take a short route through Kalerwe where old spare parts of vehicles are sold. As he was about to reach the Fly-over , two men came and hit him on the head. He became unconscious and the two men grabbed him and nailed his hands with two nails of six inches,” said Onyango in a statement issued on August 29, 2019.
“Two ladies who were looking for their missing child saw the men and they shouted. They thought that the two men were kidnapping their child. The men decided to run away. When the women reached at the scene, they made an alarm and Police of Kibe/Kalerwe responded. Kasumba was rushed to Mulago Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. He is of danger now.”
Onyango further stated that Kasumba told them that on Sunday August 25, 2019, a man approached him at his work place and confronted him to stop supporting NRM and Museveni.
“This was a well planned and organized attack. The attackers seem to have trailed him all the way from his work place. We shall not accept this kind of political intimidation and whoever is using it should desist from it,” the police mouthpiece warned.
“Uganda is a free country, where everyone is allowed to express his or her political affiliation the way they want.”
