On August 1 2019, like it’s our DNA of breaking stories, Watchdog Uganda published an article announcing that Buikwe District Woman MP Ms Judith Babirye had left the country. We told our readers that she was in US and she was expecting a baby.
The article was in response to queries especially from her constituents asking why they no longer see the gospel music star turned politician.
We embarked on a fact finding missing mission for her whereabouts until we arrived at that truth.
This was a public good. We didn’t intent to cause cyber bullies pouring scorn and threats against her life.
However, since we published that story, a number of people online have been strolling Ms Babirye, politicized her residence in Boston MA, to a point of even releasing her address and threatening to because her harm. Some accompany hate speech against her, particularly in regard to her political views.
We condemn cyber-bullying of Judith Babirye. The legislator has a right to give birth from anywhere she wants and calls to threaten her personal safety should be investigated and turned over to the in international police (Interpol). The safety and security of Ms Babirye in her condition is sacred, and it is critical at this time that people threatening her person should not be left to abuse their space.
Babirye needs her privacy. She needs peace of mind during this time. We wish her safe delivery.
