Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC head coach Sam Ssimbwa has put his side’s loss down to poor officiation and an agenda against his team after they were knocked out of the Super 8 tournaments.
URA lost 2-0 against Mbarara City at the Kakyeeka Stadium in Mbarara.
Second half goals from forwards Brian Aheebwa and Paul Mucureezi ensured Mbarara’s new head coach Brian Ssenyonjo got off to a promising start to his time since replacing Charles Livingston Mbabazi.
It was a rather cagey start to the game, with the opening 45 minutes rather dull before forward Brian Aheebwa put the Ankole Lions ahead in the 68th minute, tapping home from close range.
Paul Mucureezi gave the game a dramatic ending, grabbing a last grasp winner in the 90th minute to put the game to bed for the home side.
After the game, Ssimbwa who had cautioned the day’s referees before the game to be fair and handle the game with caution, was quite a bitter man with the way the officials handled the game.
“I want to congratulate Mbarara City for their hard earned victory. About the officiation?, I believe the officials should have done more. We should have got a genuine penalty and the referee denied us our chance,”a bitter Ssimbwa said.
Mbarara beat us today and knocked us out but lets wait for the league to start and we shall inflict our revenge and in style,” he added.
URA also missed some of its key players like captain Shafik Kagimu, goalie James Alitho, defender Baker Mbowa and new signing Ashiraf Mandela who are still with the Cranes CHAN team.
“We were lacking six starting players, maybe if we had our six players we could have done better. We have players in the Cranes camp and some of our players have been denied licences,” Ssimbwa said.
Mbarara now advance to face Vipers SC at the Semi-finals while URA will play Proline FC in the placement semi-final.
