It is now official that starting August 28, 2019, the Uganda Airlines shall fly to various cities within the region.
During a media engagement in Kampala on Friday, the airline management announced that aircraft will fly to Nairobi and Juba twice daily and Mogadishu, Somalia three times a week. The aircraft is also expected to fly to Dar es Salam and Kilimanjaro once a day, Bujumbura and Mombasa three times a week.
According to the promotion promotional fares that will run for two months, a return ticket to Nairobi will cost Shs 1m ($278), and one would need at least Shs 830,000 ($225) to fly to Juba and back.
Other costs include: Shs 1,053,000 ($286) Dar-es-Salaam, Shs1.2m ($325) to Mombasa, and 1,076,000 (311) to Bujumbura.
The fares are also inclusive of taxes and there is an option for passengers to make payments in Ugandan Shillings.
Last month, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued the Airline with an Airline Operators Certificate (AOC). The AOC was officially handed over at the company’s annual meeting on July 29. The last airline to bear the Uganda Airlines name, a state-owned entity, collapsed in 2001, while privately owned Air Uganda closed its doors in 2014.
The first two of the newly acquired Bombardier CRJ900s landed at Entebbe Airport from Canada in April.
Then, it was said, the Shs280bn aircrafts – the first in the series to have the new cabin enhancements – would not immediately start commercial flights until they complete the 90-day Air Operator Certification (AOC certification) process.
The process was due to end in July 28 but it maiden flight was pushed to August to ensure that the airlines first receive an AOC from CAA.
