Haj Habib Kagimu has been appointed Honorary Consul of Malaysia to Uganda.
Hajj Kagimu will handle the diplomatic affairs of Malaysians in Uganda.
While presenting his credentials to the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Okello Oryem on Tuesday, Kagimu pledged to promote the interests of Malaysia and Malaysian citizens in Uganda especially in the areas of trade, investment, tourism, health, Education and cultural heritage among others.
“Malaysia is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia and appointing me to represent her in Uganda as Honorary Consul inspires me to perform the various duties with great enthusiasm.
“I intent to promote Malaysia’s ease in doing business as a great incentive for attracting foreign investment into the country; it being a major exporter of palm oil and it s by products; as a major tourist destination in Asia and a prime location to further education at tertiary level; a growing destination for medical and traditional tourism including its other trade and investment opportunities,” he said.
The new consul is the Chairman of Habib Investments Limited, a Holding Company that includes Oil and Gas, Real Estate Development, Telecommunication, Security and Agriculture.
Through Habib Oil Limited, Hajj Kagimu represents Hyrax Oil Sdn Bhd of Malaysia to promote and distribute Hyrax Lubricants throughout the East and Central African region.
Habib Oil Limited is currently the only supplier of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and quality Lubricants to the Electro-Maxx Power Plant in Eastern Uganda.
Hajj Kagimu is also known for sponsoring various religious activities including pilgrimages to Mecca and Medina for highly deserving Muslims; has distributed thousands of copies of the Holy Quran. He has as well contributed to the development of football in Uganda.
