Return but in a different attire – Museveni to Miss World Ponce

It seems President Yoweri Museveni was not pleased with Miss World Vanessa Ponce De Leon Sanchez’s sense of style so he told her to put on different attire the next time they meet.

On Thursday, Ponce was received by the President at his country home in Kiruhura, Western district of Uganda.

The Mexican beauty Queen is in the country, with the Miss World Team to attend the crowing of Miss Uganda 2019 today [July 26, 2019] at Kampala Sheraton Hotel. She jetted into the country on Tuesday.

Mr Museveni said that the Miss World came at an unfortunate time when he was in a hurry to meet Ankole regional leaders in Mbarara and therefore he couldn’t give her so much time as he would.

They however, agreed that she should return another day so that he [Museveni] take her around his farm to see the marvel of the Ankole long-horned cattle, but under one condition; Ponce should come putting on a different attire, probably overalls.

Miss World was dressed in a white gown.

“Unfortunately for her, I was in a hurry to meet the Ankole regional leaders in Mbarara, but we have agreed that she should return, (perhaps in different attire) to see the marvel of the Ankole long-horned cattle,” The President said in a social media post.

Meanwhile during their meeting, Ponce promised Museveni that she will market the Pearl of Africa as a potential tourism destination across the globe.

“HE President Museveni received Miss World Vanessa and Miss Africa in Rwakitura far this afternoon, she pledged to market Uganda globally in order to attract tourists to the country,” Captain Mike Mukula tweeted on Thursday.

This is not the first time, Museveni is telling beauty queens to change their ‘fashion sense’.

In December last year, he told the reigning Miss World Africa also Miss Uganda Quiin Abenakyo to stop wearing Indian hair as a way of showing African beauty in its natural form.

“Abenakyo is indeed a tall, beautiful Musoga girl. My only concern is that she was wearing Indian hair. I encourage her to keep her natural, African hair. We must show African beauty in its natural form.”

A few days later, Abenakyo decided to follow Museveni’s advice by trading the ‘Indian’ wig for natural hair.

“When we met in Entebbe, I advised Abenakyo to keep her hair natural. I am glad she heeded the advice and re-asserted her African identity. God beautifully created Africans, there is no need to add or subtract anything,” The President tweeted after meeting the beauty queen for the second time during a State House Dinner.
