The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Ntungamo district has embarked on mobilization campaign to fight against opposition at grass root level across the district ahead of 2021 general elections.
Unveiling the Ntungamo NRM cadres’ Association on Saturday at the district council Hall last Friday, the Ntungamo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) George Bakunda told the NRM Cadre youth that the break-away of Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu from Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to form a new political party Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) was a blessing to NRM because it has weakened the opposition bloc saying that NRM will now capitalize on its weakness side to win elections at all levels.
Bakunda noted that opposition has infiltrated some parts of the district especially in the Municipality which should be uprooted using a holistic approach through conducting clandestine mobilization when it is still early.
He urged NRM youth cadres to avoid using politics of identity like past regimes and opposition who are opportunistic. Bakunda urged that they should use the interest and ideological based politics if they are to get massive supporters.
The RDC hailed the Ntungamo NRM Cadres youth for their visionary idea of starting an association to re-enforce NRM structures in the district that sall help in creating a better political ground.
According to chairperson Ntungamo NRM Cadres Association Arthur Muramuzi, the association was formed on August 15th, 2018 by a few commissioned cadres from National Leadership Institute (NALI) Kyankwanzi after identifying some of the gaps that were to be filled within the party in the district.
Muramuzi noted that they aim at having 21,805 NRM coordinators across the district.
Ntungamo district is composed of 33 sub counties / town councils, 128 parishes and 1017 villages with a population of 570,000 people.
The Ntungamo District woman Member of Parliament Beatrice Rwakimaari commended the association for patriotism and voluntarism aimed at sensitizing public on what has been done by NRM government since 1986.
The meeting was attended by 300 NRM supporters within 33 sub counties and town councils of Ntungamo district.
