The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has terminated the contract of Uganda Cranes Head Coach Sebastien Desabre.
“On the 6th of July 2019, both FUFA and National Team Head coach of the Uganda Cranes Mr. Desabre Sebastien Serge Louis mutually agreed to terminate the contract between the two parties,” the football governing body said in a statement.
Adding, “The reasons for termination of the employment contract are for the benefit and growth of both parties.”
In the same statement, FUFA recognised Desabre’s contribution towards improving the sporting and professional organisation of the Uganda Cranes inclusive of qualification to the African Cup of Nations 2019 Finals and also to the Round of 16.
Cranes was knocked out of AFCON after a 1:0 defeat by Senegal on Friday.
“Mr. Desabre is grateful to the people and the Government of Uganda, FUFA, Sponsors, Staff and the players that have provided him a good environment to fulfill his obligations in his first time role as a National Team Coach,” FUFA further stated.
Who is Sebastien Desabre?
Sébastien Desabre (born 2 August 1976) is a French football coach and former player affectionately nicknamed The Florist , he has been manager of the Ugandan national team, The Cranes, since 28 December 2017 until July 6, 2019 when he resigned.
He replaced Milutin Sredojevic (‘Micho’), from Serbia, who left in July 2017 to become coach of the Orlando Pirates Football Club in South Africa.
Immediately prior to his assignment in Uganda, he was the head coach of Ismaily football club in the Egyptian Premier League. His other past coaching assignments include ESC Rocheville in France, ASEC Mimosas in Ivory Coast, CS Garoua in Cameroon and ES Tunis in Tunisia.
Desabre has also coached Clube Recreativo Desportivo Libolo in Angola, Dubai Club in the United Arab Emirates, JS Saoura in Algeria and Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco.
In December 2017, prior to the January–February 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) competition, he signed a three-year contract with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations at a gross monthly salary of US$25,000.
On 17th November 2018, Desabre’s Cranes qualified for the 2019 African Cup of Nations after defeating Cape Verde in Kampala.
In November 2018, the Uganda national team was nominated with five others for the CAF Men’s national team of the year award 2018.
