Chakig has plans to set up a permanent zoo in Mukono District.
The zoo will be located at Nakoosi village, Mukono and it will have various animals such as lions, monkeys, reptiles, birds among others.
According to Bernard Rugambwa, the Director Chakig Investments, the wildlife park is almost ready and that in the near future they will be bringing in the animals.
“We have already received a license from the Ministry of Tourism permitting us to look after the wild animals,” he said.
Rugambwa also revealed that they decided to bring the zoo closer to the people of Mukono and surrounding areas to save them from moving long distances and spending too much money while accessing game parks.
“We urge people to always come in big numbers to enjoy the wild at a pocket friendly fee.”
He made the remarks last weekend during a highly attended Wildlife and Zoo Expo that was held at Chakig Eco Tourism Centre.
At the same event, Mukono South Member of Parliament Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonja pledged support towards the initiative.
“This is a great opportunity for Mukono since the zoo is going to offer job slots to the locals as well as develop the area economically,” he noted.
