The International University of East Africa (IUEA) is organizing an Open Day this Saturday to showcase to their prospective students what it means to study at the institution.
On the Open Day students, parents, sponsors and the general public have a chance to take a tour of the campus unabated, engage with members of the faculties of interest and attend sessions about the university and its programs.
Mr. Virgilio C. Ventura, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, says the Open Day is an opportunity for parents, prospective students and media people to see firsthand the innovative approach to learning at IUEA.
IUEA, which opened its doors in 2010, is a Kasanga-based university with over 2,000 students from across the continent.
Mr. Ventura says the university is positioning itself to be the leading technology institute on the continent of Africa.
“We are a technological university which focuses on the development of the learners and community engagement,” he said in an interview at his office in Kasanga and the university has enrolled strong members of the faculties, such as Mr. Ventura, to drive this vision. The Filipino national, according to his LinkedIn page, is an “Experienced public and private academic administrator with a demonstrated history of working in the government and corporate administration industry.” The page says he is “Skilled in Documentation of Best Practices, Journalistic Writing, Public Speaking, Leadership, Microsoft Office and Customer Service. Strong media and communication professional with units in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused on Development Communication and Management from University of the Philippines, Los Banos College, Laguna.”
The DVC said, IUEA wants to help learners become useful to their communities, and soon, they are starting outreach programs for students.
“We embrace diversity, and innovation,” he said, adding that on the open day, visitors will see why IUEA was the leading university is imparting skills, exposure to their academic programs as well as world class learning facilities.
IUEA runs four faculties namely Business and Management, Engineering, Science and Technology and Law. They have also started short courses in languages such as Chinese, French, Kiswahili among others.
