Maj. Gen. Timothy Mutebile Sabiiti has been okayed by President Museveni to contest as the Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament in 2021.
Gen. Mutebile, the commander of the Engineering Brigade in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) is set to retire from the army on July 14, 2019.
The General’s brother, Mr. Joseph Mutebile run for the same seat in 2010 but lost miserably. The duo are brothers to central Bank governor Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.
The army general, who made the announcement during Eid al-Fitr prayers at Kirigime Mosque in Kabale Municipality on Tuesday, said he recently met the President who promised him total support.
He added that the people of Kabale municipality had written to President Museveni asking him to allow the General to run for Parliament.
The seat is currently occupied Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga.
The ailing army general, who rarely prefers talking to the media, will contest with several outstanding persons from Kabale municipality who are mainly not new to the political arena. They include Counsel Dan Nabasa, Mr Patrick Kamara, Mr. Alex Muhwezi Edgar and Hon. Andrew Aja.
He contributed Shs2 million towards the construction of the Kabale district Khad’s house.
