The bodies of two Ugandan teachers who were murdered in South Sudan last weekend have been returned to Uganda.
Willis Herbert Binsiima and Charles Kule were shot dead in Apet, Western Lake State in what was termed as revenge killing.
Both were teachers at Hope and Resurrection Secondary School, Atiaba and former old boys of Mbarara High School and Nganwa High School respectively. They were in the company of a local head teacher of the school, who was spared.
According to sources, on Saturday, a car belonging to foreigners knocked down the Executive Chief of the Aliab section at Apet.
“Since they could not trace the vehicle, a group of Dinkas stood by the on road waiting for any car with foreign plates,” the source told Watchdog Uganda.
Unfortunately, a vehicle belonging to Hope and Resurrection Secondary school, Atiaba was the first to be sighted.
“The unknown gunmen then opened fire at the Land Cruiser, killing the driver – Kule as well as Binsiima,” the source said.
The bodies of Kule and Binsiima landed in the country on Wednesday at around 2:30pm at Kasese airport and were received by family members and friends amidst tears.
A friend to the deceased teachers, Abukir Haruna described the brutal murder of his colleagues as unfortunate adding that it portrays the high level of lawlessness in south Sudan.
