Little known Joel Ssekimpi has confirmed that he will run for Uganda’s top office in the 2021 Presidential elections.
The 35-year-old told the media at Grand Imperial Hotel on Friday that he is ready to send President Yoweri Museveni packing.
“I feel I have the capacity to rule this country properly and come 2021 I will stand against President Museveni and other candidates,” said Ssekimpi.
“I think we can build a better Uganda. Our main attention shall mainly be channeled to the economy, judiciary , technology, agriculture and job creation.”
According to his facebook profile, Ssekimpi is the president of World Savers Network as well as CEO at Guided Life Counselling Center.
On April 30, he posted “If a singer, who doesn’t know what the future holds for him, can do is part to move the country forward. Then we owe to the country to do our part.#TogetherAsOne” just after Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi had been arrested over a protest held last year.
Ssekimpi now joins Kyagulanyi and President Museveni who have already confirmed their interest.
In March this year, Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine told the local media that together with his team, they resolved to take on President Museveni.
“We have been discussing this with my team and I must say we (I and my team) are seriously considering challenging President Museveni in the next presidential elections.”
On the other hand, the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus recently endorsed the Party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) resolution to have Museveni as their candidate in the 2021 polls.
The position by the NRM MPs was taken after a presentation by the Party Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba entitled “Towards 2021: Milestones & Strategies for the NRM Party“ during an eight-day retreat at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi in March, 2018.
The endorsement by the Caucus meant that Museveni who has been Uganda’s President since 1986, will now contest for a sixth term in office. He will be 76 years old in 2021.
