President Paul Kagame is to personally deal with local leaders who have failed to deliver services and in turn forcing Rwandans to seek for them in neighbouring countries.
Kagame, who is on a three-day visit to the Northern and Western Provinces of Rwanda told citizens in Burera district, that Rwandans should never cross the border for services that the country is able to provide.
Burere directly borders Uganda’s Kisoro district.
According to local press, the President said he has repeatedly told the leaders to do their job and make sure basic services are provided to the community because Rwanda has all it takes.
They include health services, schools and plenty of staple food.
“There are issues that should have been solved much earlier,” Kagame said on Wednesday.
“See for example, we built health centers, but when you come here (Burere), you realize what the community is entitled to, they don’t get them.”
He also reportedly reiterated a case of students who used to cross to Uganda for circumcision services, when PrePex Non-Surgical Male Circumcision ‘was started’ in Rwanda, and spread to the world.
“Leaders only wake up when we have issues with neighbors. This is not understandable. This should change,” he said. “Why Do I keep hearing such problems, to an extent that our citizens revert to following neighboring media instead of taking what comes from us?” he asked.
The President had earlier heard that the region barely receives radio and television signals.
According to the President’s Office, the Rwandan leader will proceed to Rutsiro – Rubavu before completing his tour in Nyamasheke – Rusizi.
