Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has released a list of 19 local based players who will begin training in preparation for the 2019 African Cup of Nations finals slated for June 21 to July 21 in Egypt.
The Cranes, making a second consecutive appearance were placed in Group A together with hosts Egypt, neighbours Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe.
The preliminary squad for AFCON will enter camp on Monday, May 13 at the Kabira Country Club and then undergo a full week of training.
Coach Desabre will select those to be joined by foreign based players for a 26-man squad that will travel to United Arab Emirates for further preparations. A final 23 man squad to represent the country in Egypt will then be named.
Police FC Midfielder and Uganda Premier League top scorer has again been named and hopefully this time he will make the squad after surprisingly missing the trip to Tanzania for Cranes’ final group game match .
Bevis Mugabi who features for Yeovil Town in England and India based Khalid Aucho have also been named on the preliminary squad as has former Proline FC and KCCA forward Daniel Isiagi who has been in great form for his club Al-Nasr in the Egyptian league.
Similarly, Desabre has named a provisional 20 man squad that will represent the country in the forthcoming 2019 COSAFA tournament due May 25- June 8..
Uganda was invited for the tournament and will kick start their campaign at at the quarter final stage where they will face Lesotho.
The Squad for COSAFA Tournament will hold non-residential training starting on Wednesday May 15, 2019 at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo. However, some players from the initial preliminary AFCON Squad will be considered for COSAFA tournament if they don’t travel to the United Arab Emirates.
