Pastor Aloysius Bugingo has apologised to his followers following a week-long bitter verbal fight with his wife Teddy Naluswa.
The renowned preacher made the public apology during a Sunday service at his Makerere based House of Prayer Ministries International (HPMI) in the presence of his estranged wife who had also attended the service after a long time.
Teddy’s attendance brought the entire service at standstill as hundreds of the followers welcomed her to the holy palace amid chants and cheers.
Last Sunday, Bugingo made headlines after coming out openly to accuse Teddy and daughter Doreen Bugingo of trying to steal a piece of land that belongs to his Church. He also alleged that Teddy wanted to kill him.
“My wife was for long uncomfortable with me for declaring a full accountability during the Bat Valley Fundraising that resulted into the raising of USD5 million which we used to buy the Canaan land. She even stopped coming to Canaan to preach the word of God as a way of protesting the inclusion of Pastor Francis Mutawe and other HPMI actors in the company documents under which the ministry was incorporated,” Bugingo told his followers then.
Teddy has since denied the allegations saying Bugingo is just tarnishing her name because she refused to sign divorce papers.
Following the clash,a number of people including the Born again faith leaders came out to condemn the Pastor for attacking his family members publicly thus forcing him to swallow his pride.
While preaching, Bugingo admitted that he was wrong by exposing his family issues into the public eye. He said he regrets devastating millions of his followers, admirers and well wishers.
He also revealed that as a Pastor with a name to protect, he is obliged to behave in a manner that brings honor to God’s name.
“I want to apologise to the nation. God raised me in a dung hill. He who brought my name from there, I will not do anything that will tarnish the name he gave me. I will also apologise to the men and womenwho are tuning in and those who are here, who suffered throughout last week having to hear my name over and over.”
He further explained that in the Pastoralists culture where he grew up, there was battering of women and children as men had sticks for this. He, however, said there is no single day that he heard his grandmother who brought him up mentioning this to any of their neighbours.
“Sometimes, we learn by observation, therefore, due to the respect I give the families that brought me up, let me respect my family as well,” he said.
Bugingo added that he does not blame any of his children or woman for whatever they say adding that he can never control anyone but will control himself.
