The Parliament of Uganda has been urged to redesign and amend the constitution to slap term limits on District Woman Members of Parliament.
According to Jocelyn Bata Kamateneti the tenure of Woman legislators should reduced be reduced to ten years [two terms] if women are to benefit from affirmative action and increase of women in positions of leadership in the country.
She made the remarks on Thursday while congratulating 28 groups who exhibited their products during the belated Ntungamo District Women’s Day held recently at Ntungamo municipal grounds.
The former Ntungamo district MP Woman aspirant noted that though government liberated women from behind and bandages, the ground is not yet leveled for other women to stand for such positions because those in power have commercialized politics to the extent of hoodwinking the voters thus overshadowing young talented ladies in the country.
Kamateneti expressed concern that women cannot be empowered, financially, politically and socially when they are still facing the challenge of inequality in politics noting that constitution of Uganda has been changed many times and can be changed to cater for fresh graduates.
She asked long serving woman MPs to retire when they are still energetic such that government can recall them to service in others portfolios and leave favorable grounds for others.
