Further mention of case against musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine is being done via the newly launched video conferencing system in Luzira Prison.
The system was last month commissioned by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe to facilitate mentioning of criminal cases before they are fixed for trial.
Kyagulanyi was arrested on Monday morning and detained briefly at Naggalama Police Station, from where he was then taken to Buganda Road Court and charged for staging an unlawful protest.
Prosecution alleges that on July 11th, 2018, Kyagulanyi conducted an illegal public meeting without notifying the Police, which was against the Public Order Management Act.
Grade one magistrate Esther Nahirya remanded him to Luzira Prison.
On Thursday, while reading the charges, Nahirya said the Kyadondo East legislator intentionally disobeyed the statutory duties of section 116 of the Penal Code Act, and staged public assemblies without adhering to the required criteria.
Meanwhile, Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga has asked government to handle issues of MP Kyagulanyi in a mature way and with care.
Mayiga, who was launching Emmwanyi Terimba 2019 project in Busiro County on Wednesday said government has the responsibility to keep peace in the country. However, if Bobi Wine’s issues are handled carelessly, they might create unavoidable problems.
“I beg government to issues of Hon Bobi Wine in a mature and careful way so that the country remains at peace,” said Mayiga.
