American Saxophonist Darren Rahn is already in the country ahead of the World Jazz Day concert slated for Tuesday, April 30 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
The show, organised by Isaiah Katumwa will also feature multiple Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo who is expected in the country on Sunday. It is sponsored by Johnnie Walker.
While speaking to the press on Wednesday, Rahn revealed that he is going to be in the country for a week, and has many exciting projects he will be working on with Ugandans.
“I am excited to be here. I’ve been all over the world but it’s my first time in Africa. Expect good groove and good music, music that will touch people’s hearts,” Rahn stated.
Rahn Jetted in the country with a Jazz producer Chris Lang. The two will facilitate a three-day music workshop organized by Katumwa. It will involve mentorship programmes, donation of music instruments, music lessons, among others.
According to Katumwa, this workshop started on Wednesday at Performing Arts Department in Makerere University, then on Thursday at Greenhill Academy and on Friday at African Institute of Music in Lubowa.
Rahn is a multiple Grammy Award nominee over the past 11 years, he is known for his songs like What Cha Gonna Do for me, Speechless, D’Luxe among others. Besides singing, Rahn is a producer and mixing engineer.
According to Uganda Breweries Limited’s Annette Nakiyaga, Johnnie Walker and jazz are synonymous because they appeal to characteristic individuals.
