Kampala Capital City Authority FC have won the 2018/2019 Star Times Uganda Premier League after picking up a draw against relegation threatened Ndejje University at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.
Mike Mutebi’s team needed just a draw against Ndejje to seal their trophy after second Placed Vipers lost to URA and KCCA won against Express to open up a nine point lead with just four games to play.
The Kasasiro have lost only two league games this season and currently sit top with 62 points but Coach Murebi believes it is not yet over for them as they still have their sights on finishing with a better points tally than what they had when they last won the trophy in 2017.
“We have won the league but it is not yet over for us, just not yet because our goal this season is to win but with a better points tally than what we finished with in 2017,” Mutebi said after the game.
“We finished with 61 points then but right now we have 62 points so the boys need to keep focused because it is not yet over.”
With 16 minutes of the opening half played, the hosts seemed to have put title celebrations on target when forward Anwar Ntege scored the opening goal of the game. However, Saddam Juma restored parity in the second half to send the traveling fans into a frenzy of celebrations.
But Mutebi was not impressed with what he saw from his boys as he again sounded out their attitude saying that at a club as KCCA, their is no time to rest.
“Because the players knew that they needed just a draw, they almost switched off and that’s why we had such a poor opening half. But we should be wary of complacence because at a club of KCCA’s stature, we have to keep working hard because our fans always keep on demanding,” he added.
Despite being ranked as one of the most knowledgeable tacticians in the country, Mutebi seemed to have failed to realise his potential after stints at SC Villa and KCCA but has turned around his fortunes to three league trophies in four years, the Uganda Cup and CAF group stages.
“I want to thank my technical team, the players and the fans for the triumph, they have really been a great team,” Mutebi said.
Meanwhile, SC Vipers despite failing to defend the league, got back to winning ways defeating Police 2-1 away while SC Villa put clear their chances of survival after a narrow 1-0 win against Maroons FC.
