The Law Council has dismissed a fraud case against City lawyer Kenneth Nsubuga Ssebagayunga.
Recently, the council had suspended indefinitely Nsubuga over alleged fraudulent conduct in connection with drafting a sale agreement for an illegal land transaction.
The lawyer was dragged to the law council by Fr George William Ssemombwe. The Committee heard that in December 2012, three people Yoweri Musumba, Richard Kakonge and Paul Sembatya introduced the advocate to Fr Ssemombwe to legalise the sale of two acres of land at Bwebajja where the complaint paid Shs120 million.
However in his verdict on Tuesday March 26, 2019, Bruce K. Kyerere, the Chairperson, Disciplinary Committee of the council said there was no sufficient evidence to pin Nsubuga thus dismissing the case and lifting his suspension.
“The order of suspension is revoked and lifted under section 32 of the Advocates Act Cap 267, “said Kyerere.
“The respondent [Nsubuga] is discharged and file closed.”
After the council’s decision, Nsubuga told Watchdog Uganda that the dismissed case was a blackmail from some of his rivals who fear competition.
“The case was meant to taint my image but thank God that the truth has prevailed. The Law Council found out that whatever we did as a firm was in accordance to the law.
“One of the lawyers who acted behind my back and dealt with the bad elements in those land issues was sacked and the three men as I talk right now were convicted for their dubious actions,” the lawyer said.
In the 2016 general elections, Nsubuga contested against State Minister for Water Ronald Kibuule for Mukono North parliamentary seat. He finished second in the race.
