Football fraternity has Tuesday morning awoken to the sad and untimely passing on of Big League side Wakiso Giants’ team doctor Jack Walugembe.
Walugembe suffered a stroke at the team’s hotel while attending to a player hours to the club’s previous game against Kyetume last Thursday before being rushed to Jinja Hospital and later being transferred to Nsambya Hospital in critical condition.
“Doctor Walugembe was rushed to Jinja hospital after suffering a stroke while attending to defender Hassan Wasswa Dazo at the club’s hotel. He was later transferred to Nsambya Hospital where he spent four days in Coma,” a club statement said.
The experienced physician spent the past four days on life support in the intensive care Unit at Nsambya Hospital before sadly losing his life Tuesday morning.
Walugembe has been one of the longest and most experienced football physicians in the local game working with the national team, URA FC, MUBS in the University football League and She Corporates in the FUFA Women Elite League.
Condolences from many in the football fraternity have been sent towards the family of Walugembe with his former employees URA, UPL side Onduparaka joining in the condolences.
