Last Thursday, a prominent businessman in the Western district of Kyenjojo, Joseph Tumwebaze lost his five children to murderers.
His wife, who was beaten into a coma was found dumped in River Kawompo. She is undergoing treatment at Kyenjojo Hospital.
According to the spokesperson Rwenzori West Regional, Lydia Tumushabe, the assailants broke into Tumwebaze’s house in the wee hours of Thursday night.
Fortunately, Tumwebaze was not in the house as he had taken cassava to Kasese.
This, according to witnesses could have angered them to the extent of killing Barbra Atuhairwe 7, Oscar Alinganiza 4, Linet Ayinebyona 3, Devis Tulinomugisha 2, and one-month-old Abwooli.
Police, under the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Crime Intelligence (CID) have so far identified that all suspects, in this case, belong to one family which was not in good relationship with that of Tumwebaze.
On Monday, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said although some suspects have been captured, others are still on the run. He confirmed that the murderers had come to kill Tumwebaze to avenge for a murder that happened in 2011.
They include Allan Turyarikayo and Justus Baryeju.
Fred Byaruhanga, an LC III councillor and Emmanuel Kagulane are on the run.
“We captured Turyarikayo from Ntinda. He was on run and a member of the said family that attacked and killed Tumwebaze’s children. Information reaching us is that in 2011, Ndyanabo Godfrey, Tumwebaze’s brother beat up and killed their brother called Bright. Although Ndyanabo was jailed, Tumwebaze worked very hard to see that he was freed,” said Enanga told the press at Police headquarters, Naguru.
According to Enanga, when Ndyanabo was released from prison, the two families agreed to solve matters amicably. Here, Tumwebaze’s family was to compensate Turyarikayo’s with Shs4M.
However, Turyarikayo and his brother Baryeju never welcomed the idea and promised to revenge for the blood of their brother.
The revelation was made by Turyarikayo, according to Enanga after interrogation.
“The hunt is still on. So far we have recovered some of the clothes belonging one of the murdered children with fresh blood on it. After this exhibit, they confessed to why they killed the children although their target was Tumwebaze. As I am speaking now the team on the ground is being directed to where they kept the pangas which they used to hack the five kids,” said Enanga
Police has also deployed counselors to help comfort the grieving parents.
“We condemn such evil actions,” Enanga added.
