The Speaker to the Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has heaped praise on the work done by the Uganda cricket community in ensuring that the game remains one of the best performing sports disciplines in the country despite the huge challenges they face.
Speaking as the chief guest during the Uganda Cricket Association annual awards this week, Kadaga said with little government support, the national cricket teams have represented the country well in international events and they have not pulled off stunts to be recognized.
Kadaga went on to recognize further the achievements made by the women and the youth and for their continued dedication to the sport.
Before adding that she is going to make sure Parliamentary staff and the legislators inclusive get to know more about cricket and probably help in promoting the game in their constituencies.
Uganda Cricket Association president, Bashir Badu said their long term goal is to see that the number of youth involved in the game increases from the current 55,000 adding that emphasis has been put on schools and higher institutions of learning.
Aziz Damani’s Riatz Alisha was voted as the Most Valuable Male player while Immaculate Nakisuyi emerged as the best female player for the year 2018. Ester Iluka and Juma Miyagi were voted as the best youth players.
Aziz Damani, champions of the national cricket league scooped both the male and female team of the year awards. Tonado Cricket Club and Soroti Challengers were voted best teams for the second division league.
