A couple of South African Films have been nominated at the prestigious Amakula Film Festival scheduled for March 15-17, 2019 at the Uganda Museum.
Some few Ugandan films where given a nod including 27 Guns, Veronicah’s Wish among others.
According to organisers, Ugandan films are going to fully compete with films that have been showcased at intentional levels.
And in a bid to uphold quality of the festival, some of films were nominated at Oscars.
“Our curatorial team has put together an interactive programme package comprising of film screenings, panel discussions, talk back sessions, networking forums and an awards gala among other exiting activities,” Polly Kamukama, the Amakula 2019 Curator said.
“A total of 35 films –19 shorts, seven documentaries and nine features – representing 17 nationalities make up our selection this year, with majority of those films coming from across the African continent.”
The Amakula International Film Festival is Uganda’s oldest independent film festival that aims to contribute to a vibrant local film industry, by broadening access to and developing audiences for quality African film production; inspiring local film makers to produce quality local films based on own stories; facilitating, presenting and promoting local film productions; and offering a professional networking platform for the film making community in East Africa and beyond.
