Government has been challenged to empower both girls and boys if gender balance is to be achieved in Uganda.
The call was been made by the Ntungamo District woman Member of Parliament Beatrice Rwakimaari on friday while presiding over a women workshop organized by the Women of faith Foundation Ministry-Ntungamo held in the District council Hall as women celebrate the international women’s day.
Rwakimaari noted that women should stop being discriminative by empowering females only saying that this has created a big gap between the two sexes.
She appreciated the work being done by government for promoting women emancipation.
Rwakimaari attributed the increased case of divorce and domestic violence to women failing to empower and educate their both children before engaged in family matters.
She thanked the members of Women of faith Foundation Ministry-Ntungamo led by Regina Karibwende for organizing such workshop will an eye opener to many women in the district.
The main facilitator pastor Douglas Muhangi of Vine Revival center Mbarara urged parents to nurture their children in a Godly manner equally to avoid the tendency of having good wives but having bad husbands in future.
Pastor Muhangi advised women to be real mothers and stop giving their children huge sums of pocket money when they are going to school as it may distract them.
The chairperson of Women of faith Foundation Ministry-Ntungamo Regina Karibwende Kinyata asked women to have income generating projects if they are to be economically empowered instead of depending on their husbands.
Councilor for Ntungamo Municipality Juliet Mpamize Buriiku requested women to stop sending their children to relatives for visits anyhow saying that they may be misled.
Present were Vice chairperson LCV Ntungamo Ampeire Sakina Imamu and RDC George Bakunda among others.
