Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake has organised a thanksgiving mass to express gratitude towards God for helping him leave prison.
Zaake was on Monday granted a Shs10 million non-cash bail by Gulu High Court after spending some good days in jail. Last month, he was charged with treason before being remanded to Gulu Prison.
In a notice, the event organizing committee has invited the general public to attend the mass scheduled for March 9, 2019 at the legislator’s home in Buswabulongo, Mityana Municipality.
“We shall be thanking God for rescuing him out of prison and also keeping him among the living despite the fact that, at one point he had been mistakenly declared dead,” the committee stated in parts.
In December last year, Zaake was quizzed by police over alleged treason and escape from lawful custody at Arua Central Police Station on August 13. Zaake had been detained following chaos on the last day of Arua Municipality MP by-elections eventually won by Kasiano Wadri.
Wadri replaced slain NRM MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
The youthful MP is among the 35 people currently facing treason charges in Gulu High Court.
