Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has launched a USD$200million iron and steel plant in Rubanda District in Mulore town council. The plant will be setup by Devki Group of companies. The same company owns Simba Cement in Uganda. It also owns Devki Steels Limited, Maisha Mabati Limited, National Cement Company Limited, and Northwood aviation in Kenya.
Dr Rugunda lauded the government for enabling the conducive political and economical atmosphere that has enabled investors to come to Uganda. He assured hundreds of people that gathered at the event that the plant would bring to more than 5,000 jobs.
Devki Group Chairman Narendra Raval, while speaking at the function said only South Africa has better iron ore in the whole of Africa than Uganda, reveling that Kigezi sub region has about 250 million tons of iron ore deposits.
“You were sleeping on billions of shillings unaware,” Narendra said.
According to Mr. Narendra , he met His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni On Monday , 4th March 2019 at state house Entebbe and discussed with him prospects of building a steel milling plant at Mulore in Rubanda District ,South Western Uganda.
Mr Narendra and his delegation assured the President that the factory will led to the reduction of market prices of steel products.
Iron ore deposites in Kigezi subregion aare located in Kanungu district, Karukara in Rubanda, kisoro-Bukimbiri,Muko in Rubanda,and Buhara in Kabale district.
Rugunda was accompanied by state minister for housing, dr. Chris Baryomunsi, state minister for planning and finance, David Bahati, Rubanda district woman member of parliament Hon. Prosy Akampuriira,and Rubanda west member of parliament Hon. Denis Sabiti.
