Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) distanced itself from the news that Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu owes the tax body Shs54 million in arrears.
This week, documents, purportedly from URA were circulated via social media indicating that musician turned politician was meant to pay the said money within seven days without fail.
The said arrears were accrued since 2008 after he allegedly defaulted on payments in respect to his Magere house, One Love Beach at Busabaala, Ssemakokiro Building in Kamwokya and two-speed boats.
The notice also says the legislator would be jailed and risk losing all his property.
However, URA manager for public and corporate affairs, Ian Rumanyika told watchdoguganda that the said document was fake.
“That document is not valid. First of all, it has no date or signature indicating who issued it,” said Rumanyika.
Efforts to get a comment from the legislator were futile since he is reportedly out of the country.
