Navigator George Semakula has made another comeback to National Rally Championship (NRC) with the hope of delivering another title.
The two-time national champion will replace Unisan Bakunda 2015 national champion Arthur Blick Jr’s navigator starting with next month’s round of the NRC organised by Central Motor Club in Mukono.
Arthur Blick and Bakunda had re-united for the first time since their championship winning season in 2015 but their re-union lasted just a single rally.
The crew put up quite a performance during the season opening rally held in Mbarara at the start of this month as they finished second overall winning three sections out of seven, a performance reminiscent of their 2015 season.
Bakunda now makes the switch back the driver’s seat for the remainder of the season after fellow driver Kateete gave him a car to race in for the season.
“Unissan had a great season last year and showed he is a force to reckon with. It was right for him to get back to wheel,” stated Team Blick’s facebook page.
Arthur and Semakula will be competing in a Mitsubishi Evo X, a step up from the Toyota Supra that they both last partnered each other in the early stages of their careers.
“Step in George Semakula a two time navigator NRC Champion who knows the EvoX inside out. He has actually navigated me way back when I drove the Toyota Supra. I am happy to announce he will be calling the notes for me this season on as we make a charge for the NRC title,” added the statement.
Semakula’s top understanding of the Evo X and general rally knowledge is one of the reasons that could have aided Team Blick’s choice for navigator.
Semakula has previously raced with Ponsiano Lwakataka, Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru and recently, Adam Rauf Essa. This will be his first rally since he split up with Rauf midway last season.
