Murchison Falls National Park: Uganda’s largest and most beautiful wildlife park

Murchison Falls National Park, located in Northwestern Uganda, at the Northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley from the shores of Lake Albert up to the Karuma Falls and bisected by the Victoria Nile is the largest national park in Uganda and is named after the magnificent Murchison Falls where the Victoria Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge before plunging 45meters downstream, creating one of the most spectacular sightings in Uganda.

Murchison Falls National Park has a lot to offer tourists including great wildlife encounters, great unique features as well as state-of-the-art accommodation facilities. Booking with a legitimate Uganda tour company ensures that visitors make the most of their Uganda Safaris without any worry.

Several animal and bird species lurk around this wildlife park as well as along the river banks providing great wildlife encounters to tourists on wildlife game drives in the park and on boat rides to the bottom of the falls. Game Drives in Murchison Falls National Park can be quite exciting especially with the availability of about 76 mammal species including the “big five”. Big cats can easily be sighted as they lurk around waiting to pounce on their prey.

With over 450 bird species, Murchison Falls National Park is a perfect travel destination for bird watchers. The beautiful year round climate and the bisecting River Nile boost birdlife in Murchison. Bird species in Murchison Falls National Park include; Goliath Heron, Shoebill Stork, White-thighed hornbill, Dwarf Kingfisher, Great Blue Turaco, Malachite Kingfishers,  Blue-headed Coucal, Swamp Flycatcher, Squacco Heron, African Jacana, Sandpipers, Weaver Birds, Red-throated Bee-eater, Abyssinian ground-hornbill, White-browed Sparrow Weaver, Speckle-fronted Weaver, Black-billed Barbet among others.

Hot Air Balloon Safaris

Hot Air Balloon Safaris in Murchison Falls National Park give visitors panoramic views of the park. Flying in a hot air balloon over the park is an exciting experience and visitors get to take amazing photos of the park and truly enjoy the beauty of The Pearl of Africa.

Early morning boat rides are ideal for bird watchers and plenty of bird species and animals can be seen while on these boat rides.

Spot Fishing

Spot Fishing in Murchison Falls National Park is best done on the banks of the River Nile below the Falls. Visitors who love fishing stand a chance of catching the Nile Perch fish.

Hiking/ Nature Walks

The scenery of the park and part of the landscapes of the Murchison Falls Conservation Area can be explored on foot.
