Police in Mansfield, Massachusetts USA have confirmed the death of Sydney Miti, 31 a pilot and a student identified as Julian Lattermann, 18, of Dover in a plane crash.

The accident happened on Saturday at Mansfield Municipal Airport.

Miti, a Ugandan, was a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified pilot who worked as a pilot instructor for a flying school in USA.

According to boston.cbslocal.com, at about 12:30 p.m., a radio transmission from the plane indicated a missed approach. Moments later, the Cessna 172 flew past the Municipal Airport Administration Building and crashed into the turf landing area.

The Cessna landed nose first, and the propeller was mangled. Police, the fire department and other first rescuers responded to the scene around 12:36 p.m.

The small plane that crashed

“We had two people on board – both fatalities. There was no fire. The foam is used to suppress vapors so we can work. We needed to extricate the two victims, which we have done,” said Mansfield Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini.

Henry Kakensa, a famous blogger living in the diaspora says Miti relocated to USA a few years back and he was passionate to flying planes. He worked hard to get certified by FAA of USA.

“It’s not easy to be certified by FAA to fly planes in USA most especially if you are not a native born. He managed to do it in a shortest time. Friends who talked to him recently heard him pondering whether to relocate back to Uganda and apply for the job as a pilot should Uganda Airlines be revamped.”
