Uganda is one of the top tourist destinations in Africa because of the year-round conducive climate, friendly people and unique tourist attractions including vast animal and bird species. Tracking mountain gorillas in Uganda is one of the most popular Uganda tourist activities because Uganda has got more than half of all mountain gorillas on Earth. This is why tourists from around the world visit Uganda every year to take part in tracking these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
Most Uganda wildlife safaris include tracking mountain gorillas in Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks which are the two of Uganda National Parks where mountain gorillas can be found. The Government of Uganda through the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), issues gorilla permits to tourists looking to track the gorillas and this money is directed towards conservation of the gorillas and to develop infrastructure in the trekking communities.
In Uganda, each gorilla permit goes for USD600 during high seasons. Tourists who track mountain gorillas in the low seasons benefit from discounted gorilla tracking permits. Tracking gorillas in Uganda can be done all year round but most tourists prefer visiting from June to September and from December to February. Tourist groups of up to 8 people in company of a ranger guide can track a gorilla family in a particular session.
