Anthony Katamba, has been fired as General Manager of Corporate Services at MTN Uganda Limited, reports indicate.
Reliable sources from the biggest telecommunications company in the country, Katamba was fired on Tuesday evening.
He has been GM, Corporate Services since January 2003.
Our sources say Katamba threatened the company CEO, Wim Vanhelleputte and refused to write a resignation letter.
“He crossed the line when he said the CEO would also be deported like three other former MTN honchos,” the source told Watchdog.
Last month, two MTN Uganda officials were arrested and deported for allegedly getting involved in acts aimed at compromising the Country’s national security.
They included Chief Marketing Officer Olivier Prentout, a French national and the MTN General Manager for Sales and Distribution, Anne Tambura.
Elsa Mussolini, the head of Mobile Money was deported almost a day after Prentout and Tambura were evicted.
Reports indicate that Katamba was told by MTN South Africa that “renewal of his contract was hinged on his ability to secure renewal of MTN Uganda’s licence.
He struggled.
