The Prime Minister (Katikkiro) of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has poured cold water on allegations that he is to become Uganda’s next Vice President.
Rumours have been making rounds on various media platforms claiming that President Yoweri Museveni’s last week courtesy visit to the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi was meant to discuss Mayiga’s ‘incoming’ role in the NRM government.
“The visit was intended to weaken Bobi Wine’s influence in the Central region, and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has aligned Buganda Katikiro Mayiga to be his Vice to reduce pressure from the central region although this will be kept mute in the public,” a local online news website stated.
However in a Facebook post, the Buganda Premier has said he is not interested in becoming Uganda’s Vice President and besides he still has a role to accomplish for Buganda.
“There’s a rumour making rounds saying that am going to be appointed Vice President and that President Museveni met with the Kabaka Mutebi II at his palace in Banda to tell him about my appointment. I am not becoming Vice President. The Kabaka gave me an assignment which am yet to accomplish,” Mayiga said.
