Bunga Bet Uganda, a local betting company has pledged Shs50 million to facilitate the Lato Milk Mbarara Motor rally which is left with two days to kick off.
While addressing journalists on Wednesday in Kampala, Bunga Bet boss Prosper Tuhaise said his company has so far spent about Shs50 million to help solve logistical problems of the rally drivers. Some of the money will be used to buy a wreath that will be put on the former rally ace Charles Muhangi’s grave.
“This motor rally was organized to remember the most prominent rally car driver Uganda has ever had. Our company has been sponsoring drivers from Mbarara Motor Club, a club which was started by late Muhangi. We have come out and support this event in remembrance of our fallen brother because our company is for local people,”said Tuhaise.
He added that Bunga Bet will also buy all reflector jackets to be used in this events by organizers, journalists and security personals in order to prevent accidents.
According to Sayeed Kaketo, the event manager, the rally will to kick off on Saturday 9 with two sections in Bushenyi district where Muhangi was born and buried. The first car will be setting off at 8:00am.
“Since we are holding this rally to honor our fallen hero driver, the first two sections will end at his home,”said Kaketo.
The first section is 10 km and will start from Ishaka ending at Bumbaire where Muhangi was buried, at this stage drivers will get flowers to lay on his grave.
The second section is 13km long and will begin from Lwentuha to Bumbaire where drivers will also lay flowers. Then they will finish the first day at the super special stage at Bushenyi Grounds.
So far out of the 40 registered drivers, only 38 drivers have confirmed their participation – including Susan Muwonge, Ronald Sebuguzi, Ponsiano Lwakataka, Duncan Mubiru, Arthur Blick Jr, Jas Mangat.
Muhangi is the only Ugandan rally driver to be crowned African champion.
