Fresh from snubbing tourism state minister Godfrey Kiwanda’s #Tulambule Campaign, Miss World Africa Quiin Abenakyo has joined the Speaker of Parliament on a tour of Kamuli District.
Abenakyo was born in Mayuge District while Speaker Rebecca Kadaga represents Kamuli Women in Parliament
According to a statement from Kadaga’s office, the two best friends are expected to speak to girls at Star Light Primary School and Kamuli Girl’s School.
“The two will later on address students of St Michael High School, Sonde,” the statement adds.
Abenakyo and Kadaga have struck up an unlikely friendship that has seen the Speaker pay a courtesy call to the house of Abenakyo’s father, Charles Sembera for breakfast.
This after news filtered through last week that the beauty queen had fallen sick and could not take part in a tourism campaign organised by minister Kiwanda.
She was subsequently replaced by Miss Tourism Margaret Kankwanzi for the trip that started on Tuesday, January 5.
Earlier, Kadaga heaped praise on Abenakyo, saying she had shared plans for Early Pregnancy prevention campaign;
“It’s amazing to have such youthful queen with such a great passion for the cause,” Kadaga shared.
During the Miss World Beauty Pageant in Sanya, China in 2018, Abenakyo shared her objectives aimed at using the opportunity given to her by Miss Uganda Foundation to fight teenage pregnancy in Uganda.
She said that one in 14 adolescent girls aged 14 to 19 either have a child or pregnant. And that this has led to increased school drops, health complications like fistula and that some girls are banished from home leaving them helpless.
Kadaga had also tasked the Ministry of Public Service and Ministry of Tourism to draft a proposal aimed at supporting the Queen and Miss Uganda Foundation activities and present it to the Parliament.
