President Yoweri Museveni has today visited the King of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi at his palace in Banda.
The meeting is currently ongoing though the agenda is not yet clear but the Senior Press Secretary to President Museveni Wanyama said a brief statement would be released later.
The Kabaka and the President last met in August 2018 at State House Entebbe when Asante King Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II came to Uganda.
However, according to an online news website Nilepost, in September the same year, Museveni while addressing the media on the country’s state of security promised to meet the monarch to discuss the content of a speech made by Buganda premier Charles Peter Mayiga in regards to Museveni’s ‘behaviour’ towards a specific group of people alleged to be eyeing the presidency.
During the Arua chaos-Bobi Wine saga, the premier while addressing the Buganda Parliament said that violence and intimidation by government agencies will not deter the opposition’s quest for power, thus calling for talks between president Museveni and those seeking power in order to de-escalate tensions.
“I will look for the Kabaka so that he tells me what that Katikiro of his was saying,” Museveni is quoted as having said.
