When Teopista Okudia arrived at the US Embassy in Nsambya on Wednesday morning, she thought she would be picking her visa and walk out, to prepare herself for a trip out of the county.
Unfortunately, she was told she was not eligible for a Visa to the United States of America.
That’s when the 38-year-old woman collapsed and died at the Embassy consular section.
The incident which occurred at 11am was confirmed by the Uganda Police and US Mission.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Oweyesigire said Okudia’s body was collected from the US Mission Complex by Police and taken to Mulago Hospital to determine the cause of her death.
“When the Embassy denied her the Visa, she collapsed dead, we are yet to find out the real cause of her death after a postmortem,” Oweyesigire noted.
Phil Dimon, the spokesperson of US Embassy issued a statement confirming that a female Visa Applicant had died at Embassy’s premises.
“US Embassy personnel provided all the appropriate life-saving measures. Visa Confidentiality regulations prevent us from providing additional information.” US embassy stated.
