Musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi is making good use of his extended leave outside the country, meeting people that matter. The latest political figure to grant the Kyadondo East legislator is American civil rights activist Jesse Louis Jackson Sr.
Rev. Jackson, a two-time Democratic presidential nominee in 1984 and 1988 and Kyagulanyi discussed among others, the quest for freedom, justice and equal opportunity.
According to Kyagulanyi, the people we are up against draw inspiration from violent movements, which is why they resort to violence at every opportunity.
“As #PeoplePower, we draw inspiration and counsel from non-violent movements, which is why we despise and shun violence even when provoked,” Kyagulanyi posted on his facebook page.
“It was therefore an absolute honor and pleasure to meet with and hold a discussion with the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr, a towering leader of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, who worked very closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr in the fight against injustice, poverty and discrimination.”
Kyagulanyi told the former shadow US Senator for the District of Columbia how Ugandan youth are encouraged by their example to soldier on daily, through trials and tribulations, in the quest for freedom, justice and equal opportunity.
“It was humbling and uplifting to pray with him, for our country Uganda and the continent of Africa. Such a historic encounter. We shall certainly overcome!”
