A Tata truck loaded with sugarcane has on Wednesday rammed into a crowd, killing 10 people instantly.
The accident happened at around 9:00am in Wakisi Njeru, Kayunga road in Buikwe district.
The truck registration number UAK 277N, which was from Kayunga towards Njeru rammed into a group of people who were on the road dancing Kadodi.
Kadodi is a native dance for Bagishu people in the Eastern region of Uganda.
According to Ssezibwa Regional Police spokesperson Hellen Butoto, among the dead are three juveniles and seven adults.
“Survivors who are in critical condition were rushed to Jinja hospital. We are yet to establish the number of the people involved in the accident but so far they are 17.The driver of the truck is on the run and the truck is at Bujagali police station .The cause of the accident is not yet established as investigations underway,” said Butoto.
The incident comes hot on the heels of Tuesday’s accident that in Kapchorwa that claimed lives of 19 people.
The occupants of the bus were staff of National League of USA, an NGO based in Kiryandongo and Masindi who were traveling in a bus registration number UG 2833E belonging to Kiryandongo Technical Institute.
The bus overturned several times, killing 19 people on the spot. The victims were returning from a three-day visit at Sipi.
