Two sports gaming companies have been closed for operating without licenses which is contrary to the Lotteries and Gaming Act 2016.
The affected companies closed on Thursday are Home Bet and Game Bet.
According to police deputy spokesperson Patrick Onyango, section 26 of the Casino, Gaming and Betting License, states that “Person shall not establish or operate a casino or machine without a license issued under this act.”
“Without a license, a company commits an offence and is liable on conviction to forty eight currency points or imprisonment not exceeding two years,” he said.
Onyango further revealed that Regional Police Commanders and District Police Commanders have been tasked to locate the betting and gaming companies in their area of jurisdiction to ensure that all their outlets are closed.
He also noted that the directors of the said companies are to face the appropriate laws.
