Kampala Capital City Authority succumbed to their first defeat of the season after they were defeated by rivals Express FC at the water-logged Betway Muteesa II Stadium.

The hosts, who were looking to get back to winning ways started pretty well and went close to scoring in the eighth minute through former KCCA striker Tony Odur but his attempted dink over the keeper was cleared off the line by Timothy Awany.

The Red Eagles kept up the early pressure and with quarter an hour played, Pius Mbidde should have scored but his rebound after goalkeeper Charles Lukwago failed to clear a Disan Galiwango corner was just off target.

Badru Nsubuga’s cross from the by line was cleanly met by former KCCA forward Micheal Birungi to nod home the opening goal of the game with 21 minutes played.

After the equaliser, KCCA, still top of the table on 24 points stepped up a gear and came close to finding a quick equaliser but Muzamir Mutyaba’s effort was well saved by Ronald Mutebi in goal. Micheal Birungi almost capitalised from complacence as he beat every one including Lukwago but his shot missed the target.

Former Express midfielder Saddam Juma was stretched off clearly in pain and was replaced by Allan Kyambadde. Moments later, a collision between Patrick Kaddu and Mutebi meant the goal keeper could not continue as he was replaced by Tony Kyamera.

Express still held onto their lead as the referee sent the teams back into the dressing rooms.

With just seven minutes after the restart played, Allan Kyambadde equalized for KCCA against his former pay masters.

With an hour played, Mubaraka Nsubuga was brought on for Odur and the substitute was immediately involved in the action first by missing a rebound and later setting up Eric Kambale to head home his thrid goal of the season and second on the day fr Express.

The Red Eagles were 3-1 up with quarter an hour to play after Galiwango’s corner caught Lukwago flat footed and the shot stopper could not keep the ball from the net

Allan Okello pulled the game back to 3-2 after heading in Mustafa Kiizza’s free kick to set up a nervous ending to the game.

Ibrahim Kayiwa should have wrapped up the game for the hosts after Birungi’s cross from the right found him at the far post but the midfielder couldn’t direct his header on target.

The win moved Express to eighth on 16 points.
