After disappointing results at the weekend, Police and Bright Stars face off at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo on Wednesday, hoping to get one better over the other.
The hosts succumbed to a narrow 1-0 loss away to Champions Vipers SC on Sunday at St Mary’s Kitende while Bright Stars settled for a draw at home against Jinja-based BUL Bidco FC.
The Stars head into the game fifth on the log five points ahead of their hosts who are 10 with 14 points from 10 games.
The 2005 Uganda Premier league Champions had a poor run of results at the start of the league failing to win any of their first three games since shifting their home games from Namboole to Lugogo but have shown signs of improvement recently winning back to back home games.
Bright stars are enjoying quite a season which is arguably their best since they gained promotion in 2013. They have lost once and drawn once in the five games, a league joint best 10 points on their travels as they are still unbeaten at home this season (winning 2 and drawing 3).
Abdallah Mubiru and Police who have conceded 14 goals, however, will be wary of the threat Fred Kajoba’s team carry upfront as they have scored 18 goals so far – only bettered by KCCA.
Midfielders Hassan ‘Gaata’ Kalega and Mugisha ‘Fadiga’ Ashiraf who could not feature against their parent club Vipers will be back for the game tomorrow. However, Ben Ocen and Taymur Kimera are still AWOL from the club.
Mubiru will miss Kayongo Samuel who is still out nursing a groin injury and young winger Okiring is also still out with injury.
Bright stars Captain Nelson Senkatuka who scored his sixth goal of the season in the 1-all draw against BUL will be raring to go again.
“We shall do our best to win the coming fixture and nothing can stop us us from achieving our success in the league,” Kajoba declared ahead of the tomorrow’s game
Tomorrow’s game represents the 11th meeting between these two clubs with both sides winning twice while six games have ended in draws.
You have to track back to December 2016 when a game between these two had a winner (Brights stars won 3-0) and a goal scored as the past three games have ended in goalless stalemates.
