Many people who have done or attended wedding or introduction ceremonies, have heard Diplock Segawa’s song Sooka Omunoonye.
It is occasionally played around the time the bride is told to look for her groom among the guests.
On Tuesday, December 4, the legendary Segawa will celebrate 35 years of Sooka Omunoonye at National Theatre. The song was written in 1982 but released after almost a year of perfecting.
In January, the artiste organised a fundraising show at the same venue to critical acclaim.
Tuesday’s show, according to Segawa, who is credited for having produced the long-running Statewide Insurance Company jingle, is called Sooka Omunonye in respect to his most successful song. The Statewide jingle was recorded in Nairobi in 1981 and still running up todate.
