“Allow success to be the source of your pride. Be mindful to the challenges of the contemporary world.”
Those were some of the opening words from the Vice Chancellor Kampala International University (KIU) Dr Mohamed Mpezamihigo during the institution’s 19th graduation ceremony on Saturday, November 17.
The ceremony was held at KIU main campus in Kansanga.
Mpezamihigo said there are big numbers of people who graduate annually throughout the country but what separates the KIU students from the rest is their capability to handle the world after university.
“You need to find out how relevant you are to the people that you always meet. This is because it’s from these people that you will get blessings and connections for the next day’s job,” Mpezamihigo added.
The VC went ahead to thank parents for trying their level best in making sure that their sons and daughters pay fees on time to enable them seat for exams without interference.
He, however, felt sad for the 17 per cent that was not able to graduate since they were not able to clear their dues. It is on this note that Mpezamihigo urged sponsors to lay a hand in helping them accomplish their courses.
Mpezamihigo also congratulated the teaching hospital for being recognized as the best hospital in western Uganda and the fourth best in the country out of more than 132 hospitals in Uganda.
“The ranking was made by the Ministry of Health sector review survey, which makes the KIU Teaching Hospital a flagship of not only KIU, but the country at large in terms of health service provision and excellent training facility for health workers,”added Mpezamihigo.
Thirty seven per cent graduated in science related programmes whereas 63 per cent were non science. The main campus produced a total of 2,048 graduates which totals to 55 per cent as the western campus managed to produce 1,670 which is equivalent to 45 per cent all summing up to 3,718 students who graduated.
